The family that____together, stays together

Well, this bare foot hippie isn't bare foot today...I've got the awesomest tights on. They are a sheer black with white polka dots. I bought them a year and a half ago on clearance at Kohls, and I finally hauled them out last weekend when it was a bit chilly. Talk about some of the best money I've ever spent. I've gotten more compliments on this $2 probably than any other $2 I've ever spent. Like, "nice tights..." or, "who said it is sexy stocking night?" or "I like your tights, mom" from Elsie as she rubs her hand on them. Who would have thought?  Alas, they, as of about an hour ago,  have a huge hole and run, so their life span has been greatly shortened. Bummer! (notice, I am sparing you all a photo of the tights=))
It is freezy and sunshiny out. I had to scrape off the frost for my 7:00 meeting this morning. And thank God for seat warmers! Whoever invented carseat warmers should be making lots of money for them. They are so worth it!
Elsie's special way of eating her donut
Here at the Veenstra's, we have a Saturday morning tradition of a big breakfast. It is the only day of the week that we eat all together. And we do it pretty big. We usually have scrambled eggs, fruit, bacon and donuts from Sandy's. Brian is usually the main cook for Saturday breakfast, since I am gone until after 9:00. He will get the bacon started, and the kids will help with the eggs. They are big into cracking them, and stirring them. It is a good thing Brian cooks occasionally because I have very little patience for the time and mess involved with the kids stirring. I usually do the fruit. It ranges from fruit salad to apples to oranges-basically whatever is in season. And we top it all off with Sandy's donuts. All I can say is that if you are from GR, and haven't ever had a Sandy's donut, you are really missing out. They are amazing! People drive in from all around the area to get donuts here. They are fresh and the icing is the perfect consistency-thinner than frosting, but thicker than icing. We all have our favorites. Ethan likes the honeymooner-like a cinnamon roll but with donut dough, iced with chocolate, and topped with a big dollop of whipped cream and sprinkles. Brian Marcus likes the white cake donuts with chocolate frosting and sprinkles, and the cherry-apple fritters, and the jelly filled donuts. Elsie loves the custard long johns. It is hilarious to watch her eat them. She has a particular way that she holds them-its a 2 handed thing but she just uses her finger tips. Brian likes the cake donuts-with chocolate frosting, or plain. He likes the pumpkin spice, cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar. He likes custard long johns. Coconut covered cake donuts. Stir sticks, apple fritters, jelly filled. My man, who professes to not really be into sweets, really likes donuts. Me, well, currently I like the stir stick. Its a log of old fashioned cake donut with glaze. Not to sweet. I also like the chocolate covered cake donuts. And the honeymooners. My "favorite" goes through cycles. Sometimes I'm into the ultimate, sometimes I'm into the streamlined. Donuts...

He eats all around
the cream topping and then
finishes that part in a bite or two.
So, its a good thing that after our big Saturday brunch, we head to the track as a family, and burn off the calories.
How does that saying go? "The family that prays together, stays together?" "The family that runs together, stays fit together?" "The family that indulges in Sandy's every Saturday will be on the Biggest Loser together?" Or all of the above? Together is the operative word and Saturday is our day to be together.
Happy Saturday to One and All!
