Bucket of Fall

It was one of those perfect English autumnal days which occur more frequently in memory than in life.
-P. D. James

Today I am loving the sound of the autumn breezes rustling the yellowing leaves. I am enjoying the music of my wind chimes right outside my blogging window.

I am not particularly loving the sound of the boys banging around during QT, which has woken up Meres.

As I sit here, listening, I am contemplating my fall goals, or bucket list as a friend so nicely put it. Here is my list...

-Visit Art Prize at least 4-5 times these next couple weeks. A couple afternoons with the kids, a date or two with Mr. Hippie, and all of us together at least once. Soak in the beauty, uniqueness, and oddities that creative souls have come up with.

-Pick apples. Lots of apples. Like 4-5 bushels. And make lots of applesauce to can. And 1 pie. For the Mister.
Some of last year's pickings

-Attend a blogging conference. Influence. It's going to be completely over with in four weeks. Yikes!

-Get a grip on another batch of looming paperwork. Why, oh, why does paperwork make the world go round?

-Read more. I just finished The Tapestry (yay!). I still am only half through Julia Childs. If you haven't read My Life in France, you should. It reads like a novel. And she is a sassy bugger. I also have Elizabeth the Queen on my ottoman. I can't wait to dig into that.

Robert Frost's House at Greenfield Village

-Get my kids' clothing situation sorted out. What with growth spurts it is a disaster. Freckles is wading around in high waters. BMV is the only one who seems set.

-Make Meres a cute dress, since it seems like LC didn't pass any down. I have so much cute material, and a lot of cute patterns. I am sure I can come up with something well...cute.

-Memorize a poem each month, with the kids. We are working on The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. In November we are going to do November's Guest. Any suggestions for October and December?

-Start training for a triathlon. By October 1. I have been swimming and running on Mondays. I am going to add biking to that. And Mr. Hippie is going to join the fun.

The Hippie Offspring in the Robert Frost House

-Say kind and uplifting things to the kids and Mr. Hippie. Praise the good. Ignore or laugh at the annoying.

The Poem
-Prepare for our winter trip to Japan and Indonesia. We have our plane tickets. Now to just get everything else lined up...

-Project "Meet Me in St. Louis" with my family. It is fairly central to all of us, and we are hanging there for a weekend. I can't wait!

-Get back into trying a new recipe every week or two.

Shine On, Harvest Moon

-Drink hot cider, and cold cider-by the gallons.

-Throw a Harvest Party-complete with a bonfire, apple bobbing, caramel apples, popcorn and donuts.

-Celebrate my one year blogiversary-this week! September 21!

-Do some bulb transplanting. Move a bunch of day lily bulbs to my front wild "wild flower" garden.

Yesterday I got an email from someone already planning the Christmas party. That is all well and good. But I am thinking, to everything there is a time and a season.

I want to enjoy my fall. My bucket list isn't a list to check off as I finish things. It is a list to revel in. A list of experiences to enjoy. (besides the paperwork)

What do you want to do this fall? Leave me a comment.

*You are going to want to check back tomorrow. That infamous Mr. Hippie...he is going to do a guest post. You won't want to miss it.
